Ben Lerner is the author of three books of poetry, a novel, and a number of essays. The recipient of numerous awards, he is associate professor of English at Brooklyn College. Lerner is the author of several full-length poetry collection Notes on the Ben Lerner Poems. My inspiration for these pieces is two-fold: 1) My jealousy of Ben Lerner and 2) My fascination with my own teenage years and Midwestern upbringing. The inspirations are intertwined. I am jealous of Ben Lerner partly because he’s in many ways the person I wanted so badly to become when I was in my late teens and early Lerner is the author of three poetry collections: Mean Free Path (Copper Canyon Press, 2010), Angle of Yaw (Copper Canyon Press, 2006), and The Lichtenberg Figures (Copper Canyon Press, 2004), as well as two highly acclaimed novels.
